Watch Your Life Bloom

Welcome to the Official Blog of Author Dr. Lily L. Ratliff Jenkins, of the inspirational Memoir, The Life of a Lily: Growing in His Strength, Blooming in His Love, and many other writings.

Thanks for coming by to sit awhile and reflecting along with me on everything biblical. On this blog, feel free to share your thoughts and feelings about the various topics I present. They all do come from the heart and are meant for us to ponder, be enlightened, laugh, cry, and ultimately give God all of the praise.

You will hopefully find resources on everything from writing tips to creating your own memoir, how to journal, becoming better Christians and how to walk in your callings, destinies, and witty inventions that we have deep inside of us but sometimes don't quite know how to tap into and walk in. But GOD! It is in his wisdom along with an open mind that we will get through this together. Amen! So I welcome you my brothers and sisters!

It's Just Nice to be Nice

So then, as occasion and opportunity open up to us, let us do good [morally] to all people [not only being useful or profitable to them, but also doing what is for their spiritual good and advantage]. Be mindful to be a blessing, especially to those of the household of faith [those who belong to God's family with you, the believers].--Gal. 6:10 AMP

Many times we do things that are right but never seem to get a word of thanks. We work hard, treat people with love but still see no tangible results. However, we as believers have a charge or mandate from God to go out into the highways and byways and help those in need, be a witness for the Kingdom of God and to love as Christ Himself loves the church. We are Holy-Spirit filled believers, clothed in righteousness and set aside of His good use. So it is a must that we, as a peculiar people, still find ways to be a blessing, despite how people treat us. What are some of those ways?

1. Lend a helping hand.
2. Pray for others.
3. Give someone a hug.
4. Telephone people you haven't seen or heard from in a while to tell them you were thinking of them.
5. Run errands for people who don't have the means to do it themselves.
6. Send food or clothes not just to people you know, but also strangers.
7. Volunteer time in a shelter or orphanage.
8. Sit with the elderly in a nursing home (they would love your company).
9. Mentor a child.
10. Smile (that may be the only smile they receive).

When you take the time to do for others, God will do for you. AND you will feel good in the process.

Be Thankful for the Little Things

Phil 4:11b AMP: "For I have learned how to be content (satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or disquieted) in whatever state I am."

As we go into the Holiday Season, many of us just had the chance to spend time with family and friends, eat much turkey and sweet potato pie, and for some, shop till our hearts content on the infamous "Black Friday". However, during all of the hustle and bustle of the holidays, please remember that there are others who didn't get the chance to spend time with family, may not have had turkey, and had no money to even think of and spent their time --maybe even home alone.

There are many times during this holiday season where I've thought about my past and thank God no matter what condition in life I'm in to be content with the little things. As He provides us with the little things to be a steward over, he will in turn grant us the much based on our character towards what we have, and our hearts during times when it seems like we should be complaining. But really why?

Many of us have our health and strength. If we didn't, many of us would not be able to even read this post. We have family and/or friends to support and be by our sides. And even if we didn't for one reason or another, we have our ultimate friend, Jesus Christ and His word to comfort and guide us during difficult times.

Many times when we don't have, it may seem like God doesn't hear us, but it's when we truly put our faith to action and trust and believe that God will provide, that at the last opportune moment, God comes at the knick of time. God is our provider--Jehovah Jirah!

Phil. 4:12 AMP: "I know how to be abased and live humbly in straitened circumstances, and I know also how to enjoy plenty and live in abundance. I have learned in any and all circumstances the secret of facing every situation, whether well-fed or going hungry, having a sufficiency and enough to spare or going without and being in want."

So, I stress to you today, be thankful for the little things. There's so many things that we take for granted. It's when we get down to our last (I can truly attest) that what was once a common occurrence, truly becomes a luxury that truly makes you grateful for those moments more than any other. When God's open door swings open wide, you will KNOW without a shadow of a doubt that God was the one who gave you the promise.

God bless you and Happy Holidays!

Spiritual Gifts are supernatural motivations given to every believer. Everyone doesn't receive the same gift. Just as many parts of the human body work together as one, so Spiritual Gifts are given to the Body of Christ to serve as one.--Dr. Mels Carbonell
